Dear BBM Families,

We have a wonderful fall season ahead filled with fun events! Please review the upcoming schedule, event details, and late drop-off reminders below.

Before we jump into that, please remember to put an ice pack in your child’s lunchbox. If anything is perishable (meat, cheese, yogurt, etc), we are technically not allowed to serve it if it hasn’t been in a chilled lunchbox. This is a state licensing rule.

International Peace Day: Monday, September 21

On Monday, our school will join Montessori classrooms around the world in celebrating International Peace Day. Maria Montessori believed that children are the true builders of peace, and that by nurturing respect, kindness, and understanding in childhood, we help create a more peaceful world.

Our students will gather outside in the courtyard by the Blue and Red rooms. We we will share symbols of peace and discuss how peace means using gentle hands, gentle voices, and helping one another. Each child will hold a “peace rose” and place it in a shared vase. We will also light battery-powered tea lights to symbolize the light, hope, and love we can bring to the world, and sing “Light a Candle for Peace.”

Parents are welcome to bring and stay with their students if they don’t attend on Mondays. We’ll meet in the courtyard at 10am for about 30 minutes.

This tradition is purely focused on personal and community kindness, with no religious or historical references. Be sure to check Brightwheel that day for photos!

Upland Hills Farm Field Trip: Friday, October 9

Join us for our annual field trip to Upland Hills Farm. Here is the link to sign up: Upland Hills Field Trip Sign Up

  • When: Friday October 9, 9:00am
  • Who: All BBM students and families (Toddler through Preschool).
  • Where: Upland Hills Farm, 481 Lake George Rd., Oxford, MI 48370
  • School Closure: BBM will be CLOSED on October 9 so all staff and families can attend. Families will meet directly at the farm.
  • Activities: Enjoy a guided farm tour, visit the barns and farm animals, feed the ducks, take a hayride and short hike, and spend time together during picnic and play time.
  • Cost: $11 per person (adults and children). This will be billed directly through Brightwheel.

School Pictures Coming Soon!

Individual and class picture days are right around the corner. We will be sharing exact dates, schedule details, and ordering information in an upcoming communication soon. Please stay tuned to Brightwheel so you can mark your calendar!

Call for Room Parents

We are looking for parent volunteers to serve as Room Parents for the school year! Room Parents assist with planning special classroom celebrations, coordinating teacher appreciation efforts, and organizing family events. If you are interested in volunteering, please send us a message on Brightwheel.

Save the Date: Trunk or Treat (Friday, October 30)

  • Time: 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM (School closes immediately following the event)
  • Details: Families and/or loved ones are invited to decorate their vehicle trunks in fun themes and hand out treats in our parking lot! Students will change into Halloween costumes before the event (parents who are attending should come in and help their child). Half-day students and families who do not attend on Fridays are welcome to join us from home. More details will follow soon!

Late Drop-Off Procedures

If you arrive after the school day has started, please follow these steps to keep classroom disruptions to a minimum:

  1. Escort your child to the restroom and assist them with washing their hands.
  2. Keep goodbyes brief, quiet, and encouraging so the class can stay focused on their work cycle.
  3. Please do not engage with the teachers during class time– please use Brightwheel for any questions or messages for your child’s teacher.
